Flights of Fancy is a collection of work inspired by birds.
I find birds intriguing. There is a wealth of myth, legend and folklore associated with them, they come in so many shapes and sizes and I like to think that they all have wonderful tales they could tell us were they only able to speak.
And so I decided to start this collection of work by making a bird book, but not a conventional bird book, full of amazing but somewhat dry facts and figures. Instead, and inspired by medieval manuscripts generally and the bestiaries in particular, I decided to make a book that was ornate, tactile and would enable me to indulge in my personal flights of fancy about birds. The book is here if you wish to look at it.
Once the book was constructed I decided to 'take a leaf out of my own book' and develop some of the pages into large banners, and I have begun this process by focussing on the seabirds that I saw on the Northumbrian Coast; these are many of the images that you will find here.

This project is only at the beginning - there are many more pages to develop, which I shall include here as and when they are completed.
